Low BTU waste process gas conversion test rig. A specially modified single-shaft APU comprising of redesigned combustor, burner assembly, control and instrumentation systems. A 400Hz generator also provided and a load bank is used to load the engine whilst operating on the gaseous fuel.

RR Gnome (T58) accessory and PTO refit. A pair of vintage Gnome H1000 helicopter engines, re-assembled from gas generator module, free turbine and PTO module, missing parts identified and re-fitted. The engine then instrumented and tested.

Microturbo Saphir Test Rig Refurbishment. The Microturbo 007 and 047 series (Hawk and Jaguar) bay servicing test bench including electronic control system, starting system and instrumentation.

Warwick University automotive power train laboratory - Microturbine characterisation. The Capstone C30 HEV (Hybrid Electric Vehicle) model microturbine engine installed for use with special active load bank and simulated battery reservoir system. Also for operation on diesel fuel to facilitate exhaust gas emissions testing and evaluation.

RR Adour starting and instrumentation system. A complete turn-key starting system comprising of Microturbo air producer APU coupled to the air starter on a MK104 Adour engine. The system is a simplified version of original aircraft airframe mounted system. The Saphir air producer is started first, run up to speed and the air starter engaged. The air starter is automatically cut out when the Adour engine reaches 45%.

Low-cost ignition exciter unit for automotive microturbine  A solid state inverter based capacitive discharge high energy exciter unit. The unit utilises SCR switching that replaces expensive gapped discharge systems and utilises easily obtainable electronic components. A special switchable dual energy unit producing 1 or 2 joule sparks.

Aircraft ACM ECS PAC jet powered beer cooler  A beer refrigeration unit built from the components of an aircraft air conditioning system. At the heart of the system a special “Cold Air Unit” air-cycle machine that uses the expansion of air in a turbine to lower the temperature below freezing!  The air cycle machine a common type of unit that may be obtained on the surplus market. The system is powered with air from a running APU with the addition of some inter-coolers and electrical blowers.

Instrument panels and starter panels Plug and Play boxes. Bespoke instrument panels made for all kinds of gas turbine, jet engines, microturbines and APUs. Also automated starting sequences and starter cut-outs incorporated in to quality build panels. Often a panel plugs in to an engine electrical harness to facilitate a “Plug and Play” experience.

Noel Penny Turbojet Powered Go-Kart Rover Jet Go-Kart

Lucas CT3201 jet powered go-kart. 125 Lb thrust mini jet engine derived from a Rover gas turbine. Top speed 70 mph. The CT3201 is a simple turbojet engine that utilises the gas-generator section of a Rover 2S series engine. A simplified oil and fuel system is used to reduce weight and bulk. A beautiful little engine almost in a class of its own it terms of size, weight and thrust output, ideal for a small medium performance go-kart. An air start engine requiring a diving tank per start!

Noel Penny Turbines 301 turbo jet powered go-kart. Max thrust 315 Lbs, top speed 120 mph. The NPT301 returns great performance when fitted to a light-weight go-kart chassis. Very few engines exist in this thrust class. A fantastic experience to drive a jet-powered go-kart! The NPT301 a simple air-impingement started turbo-jet not unlike a large “model” type engine. Up to two diving tanks are needed for a cool reliable start. The engine here was one of a pair originally fitted to the LMC Leopard Jet - it has history!

Jet powered bed for kids TV - driven by the Stig! The Rover CT3201 was fitted to a bed and driven by the Stig for the kids TV programme Bang Bang Whizz Whizz. A small engine able to push the bed to over 30mph suitable for filming.

Tristar L1011 APU STL6-73 Commissioning for ground use

An obsolete but serviceable twin shaft gas turbine engine suitable for education and research purposes. A sophisticated unit originally derived from the World successful PT6 turbo-propeller engine.

An instrumentation and starting system for fitment to the Rolls Royce Pegasus turbo-fan engine. An automatic control and monitoring console able to operate the GTS/APU starter and main engine starting functions.
